It's actually 2 percent of total income! That amounts to 32% of an individual's Social Security taxes! The 2 percent they deceptively refer to is 2 of the 6.2 percent individuals contribute. 2 ÷ 6.2 = .32 or 32% It's a clever psychological trick to create the appearance that we're talking about a small portion of Social Security's revenues.
